Incentives for 2024: The Year of the Green and Digital Transition

This year will be particularly important for all companies seeking to take advantage of subsidies for digital and green transitions. In fact, there are many opportunities for businesses—whether they are local SMEs or large companies looking to strengthen their presence in foreign markets—and virtually all of them will have the chance to access tax incentives.

In this article, we’ll summarize them for you and outline the terms and conditions for accessing benefits related to the ecological and digital transition.

Digital Vouchers

This is the first genuine incentive designed to support businesses and, from a certain perspective, represents the first step toward a transition process that will help us understand new technological possibilities and begin to integrate them gradually.

Digital vouchers can be worth up to €10,000 and cover up to 70% of the cost. The investment can be made in technologies such as management software, e-commerce, blockchain, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things; they essentially cover just about all technological innovations useful for the digital transition.

Regional Calls for Proposals

Regional ERDF ROP calls for proposals will play a crucial role in 2024: while these incentives have sometimes been slow to become available, starting this year, many regions in Italy will be able to participate in the calls to access them.

Lazio Region – SME Digitalization Vouchers
Currently, 15 million euros are available, which are expected to be supplemented by an additional 115 million euros in the coming months, to support businesses—particularly SMEs—that need funding for research and development, technological growth, and innovation projects.

Campania Region – New Growth Fund
The goal of this call for proposals is to promote technological and innovative solutions that support digitalization and the ecological transition. Funding will be provided through both subsidized loans and grants.

Piedmont Region – Digitalization and Production Efficiency for Businesses
Here, too, the focus is on funding for the digital and sustainable transition, with a particular emphasis on businesses operating in highly competitive environments.

Marche Region – For sustainable and digital product innovation
: 28 million euros to support companies that need to diversify their products and services and develop solutions for the digital and sustainable transition.

Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region – Grants for Digital Investments
As part of its ongoing commitment to the green and digital transitions, the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Regionis making 13 million euros available to businesses in the form of non-repayable grants covering up to 50% of total expenses.

Liguria Region – SME Digitalization 2024
Liguria has allocated 7 million euros; the minimum investment is 10,000 euros and the maximum is 20,000 euros, with non-repayable grants available for up to 50% of the investment.

Sardinia Region – Business Digitalization
10 million euros to be allocated to businesses that need to modernize their production processes in line with Industry 4.0.

Digital Export Bonus Plus 2024

This is a non-repayable grant covering up to 80% of the investment for micro and small businesses, for expenses of €12,500 and €22,500, respectively. This investment must be used to develop digital solutions to compete in foreign and international markets.

Special attention is given to all businesses located in Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, and the Marche—regions that have been affected by environmental disasters in recent years.

The 2024 Digital Export Bonus Plus is a continuation of the Digital Export Bonus administered by Invitali with funding from MAECI and the ICE Agency.

SIMEST

The SIMET program remains available to companies that have been in business for at least two years, offering them access to incentives for digital innovation—primarily focused on exports—in order to support domestic companies in highly competitive international markets.

This incentive can amount to up to 5 million euros in the form of a subsidized loan, the terms of which vary depending on individual circumstances.
