Metrics are raw data, numbers that describe what is happening. Likes on Instagram, views on TikTok, time spent on a landing page or the CTR of a newsletter are all examples of metrics. They provide an accurate snapshot of activity, but they don\u2019t explain how that activity contributes to business goals. KPIs, on the other hand, are something else entirely. They are the metrics we choose to elevate to key indicators because they truly measure the success of a strategy. The goal is not just to know how much engagement a video generates, but to understand what that engagement produces along the user journey. Il numero di follower pu\u00f2 essere una metrica entusiasmante, ma non \u00e8 un KPI se non contribuisce a un obiettivo pi\u00f9 grande. Una community di qualit\u00e0 che interagisce, commenta e condivide \u00e8 molto pi\u00f9 preziosa di un pubblico vasto ma passivo.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">Platforms are evolving quickly, and with them, relevant KPIs change too. On Instagram, the rise of Reels has shifted attention to parameters like effective reach and content retention, while on LinkedIn, authentic visibility depends on how much a post sparks valuable conversations. TikTok, with its algorithm based on the performance of each individual video, pushes creators to track KPIs related to watch completion or a content\u2019s ability to generate new traffic.<\/p><h3><strong>Misurare ci\u00f2 che conta davvero: KPI orientati al business<\/strong><\/h3><p class=\"translation-block\">At some point, every digital strategy has to prove its economic impact. This is where KPIs such as cost per acquisition, number of qualified leads, or return on ad spend come into play. These are more complex to measure than classic likes, but they tell a far more important truth: whether the marketing is working or not.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">It\u2019s not uncommon for companies to discover, by analyzing KPIs, that a platform that seems \u201cweak\u201d in engagement actually performs exceptionally well in conversions. This can happen on YouTube, where video content has a longer lifecycle, or on Pinterest, where user intent is closer to purchase. KPIs expose flashy metrics and refocus attention on performance that truly impacts revenue.<\/p><h3><strong>Defining KPIs as an ongoing process<\/strong><\/h3><p>I KPI non sono mai statici. Cambiano con il mercato, con i comportamenti degli utenti e con la maturit\u00e0 digitale dell\u2019azienda. Nuove funzionalit\u00e0 social, come i form nativi di Instagram o le analytics avanzate di TikTok, costringono i marketer a rivedere cosa considerare prioritario. Anche il funnel si trasforma: ci\u00f2 che ieri era un KPI essenziale oggi potrebbe essere una semplice metrica di supporto.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">For this reason, defining KPIs is not a one-time exercise but a living process. It requires constant review, experimentation, team alignment, and a solid dose of critical thinking.
